Thurs. March 20, 2014 - Day 2 in Buenos Aires

Carlos and I finally rolled out of bed at 1PM. Ivan called to let us know that Carlos's passport is ready and would be delivered between 1-6PM, so we couldn't leave the house until then. But the very friendly delivery man stopped by the apartment complex about 2PM. Juan Cruz came over shortly after to hang out. He went to work for an hour before coming over. We went out walking on main street for awhile. Carlos bought his fracturas (little donuts) and we got Ivan some bath mats and kitchen towels - he's got a definite bachelor pad going on there. Carlos and I hadn't eaten all day, so he made some asparagus wrapped in bacon. Juan Cruz asked, "Que es eso?" The exact same thing that Ivan said when we bought the asparagus. I took a short 30-minute nap while the brothers talked about family stuff. Ivan got home from work about 7:30PM.

We went over to Juan Cruz's house for a little bit and had more mate.

We met Martin at Carlos's bar that he used own about 10PM. We ordered pizza and beer - orange juice for me. Gaston and a friend came for a little bit, but his Gaston's ex-wife Paola was coming with a friend about 11:00, so he took off quickly - they got in a fight earlier. Gaston's brother passed by, so we invited him to come with us. Juan Cruz is a Che follower and Carlos said I wanted to know all about him, so Juan told me a few stories.

We stayed at the bar, getting sleepier and sleepier, until 12:30AM when we could go to El Golf (golf club with a dance area and patio). We danced until 3AM.

Wed. March 19, 2014 - Arrival in Argentina

We got maybe 3 hours of sleep. Breakfast was served about 5AM Argentina time (2AM Jackson time). We landed at 6:30AM. It took awhile to clear immigration and customs. Carlos had the hardest time - no one likes his passport that doesn't scan anymore after two laundry washes. The immigration lady said Carlos couldn't leave the country with that passport, but we already had a plan to get a new passport when we arrived.

We were greeted by Carlos's son Ivan, brother Juan Cruz, and friend Gaston who originally invited him to come to the States 13 years ago. We crammed into Ivan's Honda Civic and took an hour drive in the crazy highways of Buenos Aires to Ivan's apartment.

We dropped off our friends and then took our luggage up to Ivan's apartment. I took a shower and a nap while the boys went to look for a plan get a haircut. They came back shortly when they couldn't get an appointment until 4PM. We went for a little walk around the neighborhood to find some sweet bread donuts (fracturas).

We took a drive to a huge mall to apply for Carlos's new passport and DNI (National I.D.) It would take 48-hours for the passport and 3 weeks for the DNI - and the person has to be at the house with a receipt in order to accept the delivery. Exhausted, we went grocery shopping to get a few things and then drove home. We got home just before 4PM and the boys took off to get their haircuts while I took a shower and a nap. Carlos joined me for about 15 minutes until his brother Juan Cruz showed up with his girlfriend and two little boys - Rafael (4) and Leo (7). Carlos's friend Martin came a little later.

The boys wanted to surprise their friend Tuku, so we left Juan's family at the house and took off for Tuku's game center. We passed a bar where Carlos surprised three of his friends who he hadn't seen for 13 years. They made plans to meet later that night. We went to Carlos's friend Tuku's game house that he owns to surprise him. And they decided to have a BBQ there. We played pool - I won against Carlos and Tuku's son. More friends came. They played foosball and Ping-Pong.

I was exhausted and kept looking at the clock above the bar, and didn't realize after hours, that there was no battery in it. I looked at my watch and it was 10:30PM. No wonder I'm so tired!! And we still haven't had dinner yet. Tuku prepared a huge BBQ with our group of friends. We finally left the game house at about 2AM. Martin drives a truck and we crammed in 5 of us into the truck to drive back to Ivan's. They came up to collect their gifts and stayed for nanother 1/2 hour or hour and left. And everyone has to work tomorrow?? Hmmm

Tues. March 18, 2014 - Taking off for Argentina!

Carlos and I got up at 7AM. He went to work, while I cleaned up the kitchen and finalized a few things for packing for our trip. We left the house at 10:30AM with Erwin and headed to the airport. We arrived two hours early. We checked in our one suitcase. The airline attendant didn't likeCarlos bought a couple drinks at the bar and we shared a quesadilla. The plane boarded for Atlanta, Georgia, and left on time.

Our 3 1/2 hour flight to Atlanta arrived 20 minutes early, so we didn't have to run to our gate. We stopped for a quick burger and fries to share at a nearby restaurant and waited for our flight to start boarding.

We boarded, set for a 9 1/2 hour flight to Buenos Aires.

Last Saturday of Christmas Vacation

Insomnia
I couldn't sleep last night because of a little bit of insomnia from 4:30 - 6:00AM. I thought I was passing on my insomnia to my husband who had to get up for work at 7:00, so I went out to the living room and read a couple chapters of my novel. Still not ready to sleep, I returned to bed just before 7:00. I was able to sleep until 10:00. I wasn't in the mood to do Zumba so I started on my cleaning. I mopped the kitchen floor, did the dishes, dusted, vacuumed, did the laundry, cleaned the bathroom, picked up clothes, and then started on my last Christmas projects. I know, I know, Christmas is long gone, but it's better late than never!

Insomnio
